Please read these terms carefully before using our comparison service.
4Drive NZ ("we", "us", "our") operates a website that compares car rental offers from a range of trusted Kiwi and international suppliers across New Zealand. We are an independent comparison service. We are not a car rental company, we do not own or operate any vehicles, and we do not run rental counters at any airport or city location. When you select an offer through our comparison engine, you are directed to complete your booking with the supplier that owns the vehicle, and your rental contract is formed directly with that supplier.
Our comparison engine collects live pricing, availability and conditions from more than 30 suppliers operating in New Zealand, including well-known local companies and larger international brands. We display this information so you can compare prices, supplier ratings and rental conditions side by side. We do not set prices, availability, insurance terms or cancellation policies - these are determined by each individual supplier and shown per offer at the time you search.
We make reasonable efforts to display accurate and up-to-date information, including typical from-prices, supplier ratings and general guidance about driving conditions in New Zealand (such as left-hand traffic, ferry logistics between the North and South Islands, and seasonal demand). However, prices, availability, fees and conditions can change between the time you view a page and the time you complete a booking with a supplier. Always review the final price, insurance excess, fuel policy and cancellation terms shown on the supplier's booking page before confirming.
Any booking you make is a contract between you and the rental supplier, not between you and 4Drive NZ. This includes matters such as vehicle collection and return, fuel policy, insurance excess, additional driver fees, young driver surcharges, cross-border or one-way conditions, and behaviour at pickup (such as documentation checks and credit card holds). We recommend reading the supplier's own terms carefully before you complete a booking, particularly around excess/deposit amounts, mileage limits and any exclusions for gravel or unsealed roads.
New Zealand traffic drives on the left. Visitors unfamiliar with left-hand traffic should take extra care, particularly at intersections, one-lane bridges and roundabouts. A full driving licence in English, or an accompanying International Driving Permit or certified translation, is typically required by suppliers; requirements vary and should be checked on the individual supplier's terms before booking. Drivers are responsible for complying with New Zealand road rules and for any fines, tolls or infringements incurred during the rental period.
Most rental vehicles cannot cross Cook Strait on the Interislander or Bluebridge ferries. If you are travelling between the North and South Islands, the common arrangement is to drop your vehicle at a supplier location in Wellington, cross as a foot passenger, and collect a different vehicle in Picton (or vice versa). Many suppliers can arrange this at no extra cost, but conditions vary and should be confirmed directly with the supplier before you rely on this arrangement for your itinerary.
Many offers shown through our comparison engine include free cancellation up to a certain point before pickup, and some allow date or vehicle changes. These conditions are set by the supplier and displayed per offer. Please read the specific cancellation policy attached to your chosen offer before confirming, as not all offers include free cancellation and cut-off times can differ between suppliers.
To the extent permitted by law, 4Drive NZ is not liable for losses arising from your use of a rental vehicle, disputes with a supplier, delays, cancellations, or inaccuracies in supplier-provided information such as pricing, vehicle availability or insurance terms. Our role is limited to presenting comparison information; the supplier is responsible for the vehicle, the rental agreement and the service provided at pickup and drop-off.
